What About The Future?
Newmarket, June 5, 2020
At this time of writing, it is still unclear what the timetable will be. The coronavirus is a dangerous new enemy, whose effects are hard to predict.
It appears to be more contagious than the influenza virus and can cause devastating illness and death, even in otherwise healthy people, although the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions are generally the most vulnerable.
Once the virus escapes into the community, it can spread with ease, especially when many infected individuals may have no or minimal symptoms to indicate that they are shedding viral particles.
This is a Public Health exercise on a scale that has never been seen in our lifetimes, and the script is being written and revised on a continuous basis.
The guidelines, admittedly, have been confusing at times. "Should I wear a mask? Where is it safe to go? Who can get together safely?" are the questions we are all asking.
Social distancing and masking when necessary, hand washing or sanitizing, limitation of unnecessary travel remain the cornerstones of the Public Health strategy.
We cannot become complacent, otherwise back to "Square One" we will go!
